Gordon's Bay
Gordon's Bay is a small picturesque seaside town on the eastern side of False Bay. Framed with the exquisite views of the slopes of Hottentots Holland in the background, it enjoys the warm Mediterranean climate.
Having maintained its reputation of an old coastal village, Gordons Bay is popular among people who want to enjoy a relaxing holiday. The area also has many excellent restaurants, shopping malls and visitor-amenities.
Gordon's Bay offers many interesting activities during its peak season. Host to the Blue Flag Bikini Beach, it provides a variety of activities from swimming to diving and surfing. While the younger crowd come to Bikini Beach to play beach volleyball, sunbathe and surf, the main beach with its gentler waters, is more popular with families.
If you are here during the whale-watching season, do not miss a drive along the coastal Clarence Drive! It is situated between Gordon's Bay and Betty's Bay and offers some of the best whale-watching opportunities. Truly a rewarding experience!
Named after the numerous bikini clad students of the Stellenbosch University, Bikini Beach has its own particular charm and is a great swimming spot thanks to its warm and crystal-clear water. From the Bikini beach, one gets a magnificent arching view of the entire False Bay.
Even more interesting, the shops are not far away from Bikini beach and there are also good changing facilities. Only a distance away from Bikini beach lies Gordon's Bay Beach and Strand Beach, which are both great family beaches.
Gordon's Bay Beach has a sandy shore and stretches over 800 m. The beach provides a good sitting arrangement as the beach is lined up with benches. Informal beach traders can be found on the beach selling ice-cream and even giving beach chairs and umbrellas on rent.
Strand Waterworld, found on Strand Beach near the Life Saver Station is a water-slide and fun park, suitable for the whole family. With its various rides and facilities, it makes a day at the beach memorable.
